411. Household Objects as Food

May 5, 2026

Q. I was a regular NL reader during college, 1969-1973, and I am trying to find a staged picture of a dinner place setting where everything was made of something other than food. I have a vivid memory that the dishes were made from paper towels and other weird stuff like Vaseline, etc. does this ring a bell? It was during that period of time and was a classic. Just wondering if that registers with you and if you want issue it might be in? Thanks and keep up the good work!

A. That was “Home Cooking: Specialitiés de la Maison” by Ron Barrett in the July 1974 (“Dessert”) issue.
