415. Assistant Fecal Engineer Ad

July 28, 2026

Q. I am looking for a picture from the National Lampoon, I think it may have been a Tenth Anniversary Anthology issue. It is a matchbook style ad, with a man standing in a bucket of gasoline and dynamite strapped around his waist and head. He is wearing a shirt that says “Assistant Fecal Engineer” and is being dressed down by a guy wearing a shirt that says “Fecal Engineer.” The main caption reads “Drop That Match. There’s One Last Chance!”

Where can I find this one?

A. That appeared in “Find Work Before Striking,” by John Weidman, illustrated by Warren Sattler, in the July 1977 (“I Got My Job Through the…”) issue.

If anyone else knows, please put your answer in a comment below.

Got it! June 1977 'I got my job thru..." issue. Written by John Weidman, art by Warren Sattler. Possibly the Poon's most depressing issue ever.

Thanks, Carol! Incidentally, the reason I had trouble finding this was that the article appears to be missing from the National Lampoon Complete DVD-ROM for some reason.
