Your Unauthorized Guide to the Golden Age of National Lampoon Magazine

237. 747 Jet Pilot Home Correspondence Course

June 16, 2010

Q: I have a friend (Dave) who is trying to find a particular old issue and like, most now “older” folks he cannot remember much about that issue he had read so many years ago, except he says that he remembers he read an article in that issue that was comical about “pilots learning to fly jet planes, right here at home!”. Dave thinks that was so prophetic considering what later happened at 9/11. So, I guess my question is: Is there an issue with such an article in it? and what issue would that be?

A: That was “Krash Course” by P.J. O’Rourke and Michael O’Donoghue from the National Lampoon Encyclopedia of Humor (1973) (page 73).
