350. Bicycle Seat with Scratch ‘n’ Sniff Tag

January 15, 2012

Q: I was in a conversation with friends and we were talking about a National Lampoon issue that had a picture of a bicycle seat and a scratch and sniff bar on the seat. If I remember correctly, it was a joke personality test and the article that followed labeled people based on whether they actually tried to scratch and sniff the seat. I’ve narrowed the issue to sometime December 1973 and May 1974.

A: What you remember is a photo illustration that went with the article “Whiffers and Cooties and Lungers on Strings” by Doug Kenney from the February 1974 (Strange Sex) issue. It’s a survey of strange behavior. No personality test, however. No idea where you got that from.
