174. Giant Penis Centerfold
September 13, 2009
Q: In the early ’70s there was an issue of National Lampoon that had a centerfold of a huge penis with a caption “THE CHAMP”. I remember because during class in high school I’d show it to my female friends and they would go crazy. Do you recall what issue that was?
A: Natalie Lamp nails it: “That was part of the Exsquire parody in the Back to College issue, Sept ’75. It was a spoof of an Esquire feature where they ran lifesize photos of parts of athlete’s bodies for the reader to compare himself to. NOT genitalia tho’; I remember Rod Laver’s hand and Arnie Schwartzenegger’s neck. Pretty gross anyway.”

Thank You Natalie, One, for being so acurate and two, for being free with your infinite wisdom and bravery. Just so happens that I found a lot of 5 NL issues on ebay and the one that I needed was September 75 for the short story of "Pinto's first lay" and low and behold.... there it was just like you said it was. Let me know if you ever want to see "THE CHAMP"! Thanks again, John

If anyone cares, the part in question allegedly belonged to Muhammad Ali, or at least so said Sean Kelly i(a NatLamp editor) in a talk at my college a ew years later.

That might be a bit of 'blarney' on Sean Kelly's part. It loox to me like an animal's penis, maybe a pig. If so, SK's remark seems to hold a hidden insult to Ali's religious beliefs... or am I reading too much into it?

I was told the penis in question belonged to the late porn star Marc Stevens, a/k/a "10 and 1/2." He used to visit the Poon offices ten years after said photo, in the mid-'80s.
