139. Pet Cat Abuse Cartoon

February 4, 2009

Q: There was a cartoon in Lampoon that had a man sitting in his recliner with a startled look on his face. Standing next to him was a little boy. The caption was something like, “Dad, when you were my age, did you have a gaping sore on your penis that hurt when you stuck it in the cat?” I’d love to either find that cartoon or know who the artist was.

A: It appeared in the March ’86 (All About Women) issue and also the expanded (1984) edition of “Cartoons Even We Wouldn’t Dare Print” (page 9). The artist was P.C. Vey. Many thanks to Mona for answering this question.

That cartoon, drawn by P C Vey, appeared in 'Cartoons Even We Wouldn't Dare Print', a 1984 collection of cartoons supposed to be too dirty to print in the 'Poon itself. Later, a few of these did run in the mag, but I'm not sure when.

Thanks, Mona. That's probably where I saw it, too.

Wait, I just looked and I couldn't find it in that book (which was from 1979, actually). I also checked "Cartoons Even We Wouldn't Dare Print II" (1985) and "Hitlers Favorite Cartoons" (1982). No luck.

I stand by my answer. My copy of "Cartoons Even We Wouldn't..." is copyrighted 1984, and the 'gaping sore' cartoon is at the bottom of page 9. I have it in front of me this very minute. Maybe there were two editions of this book?

I think there must have been more than one edition or something. Definitely not in either of the "Cartoons Even We Wouldn't..." volumes I have, one from 1979 (the original, I assume) and one from 1985 (says "... II: The Sequel" on the cover). Maybe Australia got different cartoons.

In this unprecedented heatwave, I've literally been unable to do anything but drink beer and look thru' old funnybooks. So here's the dope: (1) There were indeed 2 editions of CEWWDP. Mine is the 'expanded' version from 1984, not to be confused with CEWWDP volume 2 (The Sequel). (2) AFAIK there were never any Aussie editions of any Lampoon stuff (not like bloody MAD magazine, thank god!) (3) The 'gaping sore' cartoon also appears in the March 86 (All About Women) issue, on page 8. So there.
