79. Poor Timmy

February 19, 2004

Q: I am looking for info about a full page fake ad that appeared in late ’70s or early ’80s depicted “poor Timmy”, who had all sorts of physical impairments (blindness, hairy palms, etc), and ended with “but don’t worry, he’ll be dead soon.” It was purportedly by the Onanist Prevention Society, or something similar.

A: That piece is not from NatLamp but from the book “Not the bible” written in 1985 by Tony Hendra and Sean Kelly. (Thanks to both Max and Marcel for this answer.)

The ad - as well as a short excerpt from Not the Bible - did appear in the March 1983 issue. First issue I ever bought (age 12)! It contained some very funny stuff, which was a rarity at that period in the magazine's history.
