290. Miracle World Series Catch

April 25, 2011

Q: Trying to find a black and white picture captioned “(somebody)’s miracle catch in the ’47 world series”. It was a picture of a baseball player making a catch about 40 feet in the air. It was so stupid and still cracks me up to this day thinking about it. Maybe one of the sports issues?

A: That was from “Doc Feeney’s Scrapbook of Sports Oddities” by Bruce McCall in the November 1973 (Sports) issue.

Comments

It was 'Hoplock's amazing catch!" Underneath it was a headline for another fictional sports event: "HUB HOOP PARLEY NOD NIPS JINX" I recall it because it was so laughably ridiculous.

I agree. I think it's one of McCall's funniest things.
