226. Kent State Playset Ad

May 26, 2010

Q: Someone told me about National Lampoon running an advertisement selling a Kent State Playset that came with 10 plastic national guardsmen shooting, 10 guardsmen running, 4 dead students, 1 student kneeling, a box that doubles as an ROTC building etc. What issue was this in?

A: It was a fake ad in the comic book parody “G. Gordon Liddy, Agent of C.R.E.E.P.” from the October 1973 (Banana) issue. (Thanks to Dell for answering this.)

Comments

"Re-live again this famous disciplinary action that turned the tide against America's college bums!" The "204 pc. Kent State Disturbance set" appears in the October 1973 "Banana" issue, inside the comic book parody "G. Gordon Liddy, Agent of C.R.E.E.P." The parody was co-written by Chris Miller, in a rare foray into political satire.
