151. “Jades Boyz” Duck Cartoon

May 2, 2009

Q: I was an annual subscriber to NatLamp in the 1970s, when it was funny. I recall a cartoon of a duck (not Dirty Duck) with a big toothy grin, standing in a bowl of dog food. The duck was waving and saying “jades boyz”. Do you have any idea what issue it was in?

A: It sounds like the cartoon duck mascot National Lampoon used sometimes during its first year, and it was: May 1970 (Greed) issue, p. 80. (Thanks to Steve O. for the answer.)

Comments

It's in the second issue of NatLamp- the May 1970 "Greed" issue, on p.80. It's the illustration for the "Name that Duck" contest in the nanosecond before they realized just how idiotic it would be to have a duck as the mascot for an adult humor magazine.

Oh, man, I flipped right past it. At least I was on the right track. That duck was the first thing to get axed when Michael Gross took over.
